Karl Lagerfeld: Fire Etchings
Exhibition dates: February 19, 2013 – March 23, 2013
Galerie Gmurzynska is pleased to announce the exhibition, Karl Lagerfeld: Fire Etchings; a unique and new body of artwork by one of the great renaissance personalities of our time.
Situated in Galerie Gmurzynska’s St. Moritz location, across from Badrutt’s Palace Hotel, Lagerfeld will display a body of work created from backlit glass that has had its image etched into the surface by fire. The works combine a brand new medium, for art and the artist, with Lagerfeld’s iconic photography talent. Large scale and unique, the exhibition focuses on images Lagerfeld has abstracted of some of his current muses: the rapper, Theophilus London; and the models, Freja Beha Erichsen and Aymeline Valade. Together these pieces create Lagerfeld’s answer to contemporary portraiture.
Karl Lagerfeld has had solo exhibitions at the leading museums around the world, including: the Musée d’Art Moderne, Paris; The Whitney Museum of American Art, New York; The Israel Museum, Jerusalem; and the Chateau de Versailles. Galerie Gmurzynska has represented Lagerfeld and his photography for over two decades, publishing numerous books and catalogues, hosting important exhibitions of the artist’s work and realizing special exhibition projects with him on a global scale.
