Joan Punyet Miró (b. 1968), an artist, activist and poet based in Mallorca, responds to the urgent call of the global environmental crisis, and presents his ecological abstractions as healing humankind's sensibility towards nature. Punyet Miró declares his art "both a celebration and a cri-de-coeur for nature’s sake." Like a moon orbiting a planet, Punyet Miró's decades-long support for his grandfather Joan Miró's legacy is set anew with his own voice instigated, calling out into a universe of beauty and wonder.
Through series such as Rainbow and paintings Painted Music or Everything Else Collapses, Punyet Miró’s sensitivity to color, painterly gesture, and the demands of the global climate crisis are foregrounded. His works and attitude ask the viewer to never take for granted the natural world and to develop a heightened personal connection to nature.
"Colors are the synonyms of joy. We need colours in our lives. They give us hope. They join music to make us happy. They join poetry to give sense to our lives. Red is passion. Yellow is warmth. Green is mother nature. Blue is a dream. Slowly growing brushstrokes with endless textures, a wonderful combination of emotions. These are the most extraordinary dreamlike constructions that evoke the natural beauty of our world."
